C. Harold 'Popeye' Olson, 94, of Colfax died Wednesday February 21, 2007, at Area Nursing Home in Colfax.

Harold was born September 24, 1912, in Colfax to Hans and Karen (Mortenson) Olson. He grew up and attended school in Colfax. Harold served his country in the U.S. Army during World War II. On December 24, 1945, he married Orpha Fjelstad in Eau Claire. Popeye lived his life in Colfax, owning and operating a number of businesses over the years — including an auto repair shop. He started Olson Excavating in 1950, and was proud of the fact that he had dug a number of the basements in the Colfax area. He had a hobby farm that he loved, did the caretaking and grave digging for Lower Running Valley Cemetery, loved to work on tractor engines and was very active in the community.

Survivors include his wife, Orpha; one son, Bruce (Victoria) Olson; and one daughter, Becki (Wayne) Hagen; seven grandchildren, Joshua, Carl and Mathew Hagen, Jason, David, Isaac and Laura Olson.

He is preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Hulda Wold and Alida Stensland; and an infant brother, Orrin.

Funeral Services for Harold 'Popeye' Olson will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, February 24, 2007, at Sampson Kastner Funeral Home, with Pastor Koepp officiating. Burial will be in Lower Running Valley Cemetery. Friends may call on Saturday from 9 a.m. until the time of services at the funeral home.
